How to

Mac users may want to use iMovie or QuickTime to create video files. To record audio files, Garageband is one of the best programs.

Windows users may download Photostory, a free program by Microsoft.

All these projects require pictures or video and audio. The best option is video, but you can always use pictures and audio and create an iMovie, a Photostory, or a PowerPoint. NOTE: PowerPoint files are very large, which sometimes makes them difficult to upload and download.

Once you finish your projects, add them to your e-portfolio. Your e-portfolio may be inside of Blackboard or a webpage. You may change the tile of your projects.  For example, you may call project 2 “Interview with Pancho Villa” or “Interview with XYZ.”How to create your e-portfolio.

If you already know how to create an e-Portfolio on Blackboard, create one.  If you need information to create it, click on the links bellow and follow the instructions.

How to create your e-portfolio on Blackboard: This is a short version of the instructions.  To access the e-Portfolios Manual, go to the Blackboard Content System and choose “Institution Content,” then click on “e-Portfolio.doc.”

How to fill out your Global Language Passport

If you are not a VCU student, go to the GLP page and download the .doc version of the passport, fill it out and add it to your portfolio.

  1. In Blackboard, go to the “Content System” and then click on “Portfolios.” Choose “My portfolios,” then click on the folder of your Language Portfolio. Now that you have your e-portfolio open, click on the link to the right that says “contents.”
  2. The new page has the sections of your e-portfolio. Find the “Passport” section and click on its “Modify” link.

Note: If you have not created this page, then click on “Item,” after a few seconds a new page will appear. Click inside the “Template” area, scroll down and pick the “GLP Passport” (it may say “Passport” only), write “Passport” inside the title area, then hit “submit.”  You will be back inside your portfolio.  Click on “Passport,” then follow the instructions on #3.

  1. The next page will take a few seconds to appear.  When you see the “Global Language Portfolio” form, click inside the areas to fill it out.  You may need to resize the page to be able to scroll down the form.
  2. The areas marked with (*) are optional.  For now, fill out the areas for name, native language, and other languages [don’t include here the language you are studying now].
  3. Next to “Language 1” write the language you are studying: Spanish, Italian, French, etc.
  4. Scroll down to see the whole document.  In the Understanding, Speaking, and Writing sections write Intermediate Low or IL in each section if you are in 201.  If you are taking Spanish 202 or higher, read the descriptions of the ACTFL chart and fill out the passport form according to it. If you have a diploma or a linguistic experience, fill out those areas.  Linguistic experience means that you lived in a place where Spanish is spoken as the main language, or one of the main languages.  Scroll down the main window and hit Submit. On the next page, click OK.
